Edge Protectors

Axxon honeycomb edge are formed 90° angle manufactured from flat honeycomb panel stock. They protect the edges, corners, and faces of products during transit and storage — a compressible but structurally sound buffer between the product surface and outer packaging.

How it works.

Edge Protectors are placed along the edges, corners, and flat faces of a product before the outer carton or wrap is applied. The 90° profile conforms to the product corner and distributes force across both faces simultaneously — absorbing lateral impact and preventing edge crushing during transport.

For top and bottom face protection, a set of four corners placed along the perimeter creates a full perimeter cap without requiring a solid top/bottom sheet. Longer sections wrap around vertical posts and columns up to 144″ in a single piece.

Engineering Note
Panels thicker than 1.25" become increasingly difficult to bend to a clean 90° fold and are generally not recommended for corner applications. For applications requiring higher compressive performance, consider a thicker flat panel with slit score, or discuss with Axxon.

How they are used

Honeycomb edge protectors are placed along the edges, corners, and flat faces of a product before the outer carton or wrap is applied. They serve multiple functions depending on placement:

Edge & Corner Protectors

Placed along the vertical edges of a product — such as a filing cabinet, door panel, or appliance — to absorb lateral impact and prevent edge crushing during transport. The 90° profile conforms to the product corner and distributes force across both faces simultaneously.

Top & Bottom Caps

Placed across the top or bottom face of a product to provide compressive protection against stacking loads. A set of four corners placed along the perimeter of the top or bottom face creates a full perimeter cap without requiring a solid top/bottom sheet.

Column & Post Protection

Longer corner sections wrapped around vertical posts, columns, or door frames to protect against handling damage during storage and transit. Lengths up to 144" allow full-height coverage for tall products in a single piece.

Face & Panel Protection

Shorter corner sections used as point-of-contact buffers between product faces and carton walls, preventing surface-to-surface contact and reducing the risk of scratching, denting, or marking during transit.

Design considerations.

  • Select thickness based on the compressive load the corner must absorb. Thicker panels provide higher resistance; thinner panels are more flexible and easier to apply to tight profiles.

  • For very long products, consider whether multiple shorter corners joined end-to-end are more practical than a single long piece. Pieces over 96" become progressively more difficult to handle during pack-out.

  • Panels thicker than 1.25" become increasingly difficult to bend to a clean 90° fold. For higher compressive performance, consider a thicker flat panel with slit score.

  • For filing cabinet and steel enclosure applications: corners typically pair with flat pads on top and bottom faces for a complete protective package.

Applications

Common applications.
Edge Protectors can be implemented for a variety of applications. The examples below are illustrative starting points, not standard SKUs. Let’s develop your solution.

Filing Cabinets & Steel

Vertical edge protectors and top/bottom pads shipped between the cabinet and its corrugated shipping carton.

Door & Window Mfg.

Edge and corner protection for hollow-core and solid doors during storage, inter-plant transfer, and final distribution to job sites.

Appliances & White Goods

Corner and edge protection for refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers — protecting painted and finished surfaces from handling damage.

Furniture & Case Goods

Protection for flat-pack and assembled furniture panels, tabletops, and shelving during domestic and export shipment.

Glass & Mirrors

Face and edge protection for large glass panels and mirrors — compressible profile cushions without marking polished surfaces.

Industrial Components

Edge protection for fabricated metal components, composite panels, and machined parts where surface integrity must be maintained.
